Uniting Church women from across Australia will attend the third UnitingWomen conference in Brisbane in September. Registration is open and planning for UnitingWomen 2018, a biennial conference hosted by the Uniting Church in Australia, is well underway. The conference will be held from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 September at Somerville House, located in the South Bank precinct of Brisbane.
Queensland Synod General Secretary, Rev Heather den Houting says that while the location for UnitingWomen changes, the essence of the conference remains.
“UnitingWomen is about Christian women coming together in God’s name, finding acceptance, encouragement and inspiration,” said Heather.
The program of speakers and exhibitors includes keynote speaker, Eloise Wellings who represented Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Eloise is a two-time Olympian whose personal faith motivates her running career. She is also the co-founder of Love Mercy, a foundation working to empower communities in Northern Uganda to overcome poverty.
Along with women in leadership within the Uniting Church, the conference will feature Lyn Diefenbach, a professional artist and teacher, and Sarah Hands who will lead a workshop entitled ‘Sharing wisdom and encouraging one another’.
UnitingWomen coincides with the Brisbane Festival, with a program of theatre, music, dance, circus, opera and other major events culminating in Riverfire on 29 September.
“There are not many better vantage points to see Queensland’s ultimate fireworks display than Somerville House, our conference venue,” said Heather. “This will be one of the busiest times in the year for our hospitality industry, so I encourage you to book accommodation and make arrangements sooner, rather than later.”
