Uniting Church in WA congregations will focus on all things ‘green’ next month as Sustainable September begins. This year’s theme is ‘Unlimited love for a limited planet: Consume with care’ and focusses on the human community and its relationship with the Earth and the species which share it with us. The Social Justice Board of the Uniting Church in WA has prepared a range of resources which will be sent out to all Uniting Church in WA congregations and faith communities.
Using the lectionary readings, these resources will include creative ways you can engage with environmental issues in worship such as prayers, sermon starters, liturgy outlines, children’s resources, hymn suggestions and a basic PowerPoint reflecting the liturgy for each week.
The Uniting Church in WA is committed to good stewardship of creation from the belief that God, as creator, calls us into a relationship which seeks reconciliation of all creation with God. In 2006, the Uniting Church in Australia released the statement, For the Sake of the Planet and All its People, which encourages Uniting Church members to model ways of living that reduce greenhouse emissions and take matters of environment and lifestyle change seriously.
