After many years in congregational ministry, including as a home missioner, Tom served at the Wasley Centre from 1980 providing counselling and training in the field. However when the centre moved outside the Uniting Church – to the Wasley Institute – his role was no longer officially a church placement. Tom has been of great service to the church throughout his ministry, and his work is appreciated by many.
Rev John Dunn, colleague and friend, spoke at the service, apologising for the church’s failure to name his role as a settlement or placement.
“I know that the UCA has not ‘inducted you into your ministry,’ but as a church we have benefited and so many of us are stronger and wiser because of our engagement with you,” John said.
“We celebrate your ministry of care, your faithfulness to the Gospel, your prophetic word of challenge to the church and your continuing commitment to the vows you made at your ordination,” he continued.
“Our prayer for you, Tom and Ros, is that you may live in the moment wisely and well.”
